Define the phone number as a required field for customers

By marking the phone number field a required field in your checkout, you ensure that you can easily contact your customers. You can use it to improve your customer service and to better coordinate shipping, for example by arranging a call before an order is delivered.

The phone number is saved in your Cockpit both in the respective customer details and in the order details. You can find it there on the card Customer details/Customer info.

How to mark the phone number as a required field for shipping orders

You can only mark the phone number field as required for all shipping orders, but not for individual shipping methods.

Note

As long as the cart functionality is deactivated, all other settings on the card Cart & checkout settings are automatically greyed out and can't be selected. Before you can make this setting, you will therefore need to activate the cart functionality.

1. In the sidebar of your cockpit, select Settings > Shop.
2. Select Cart & checkout.
3. Navigate to the card Cart & checkout settings.
4. Activate the checkbox Show phone number as a required field at checkout.
5. Select Save.

You have marked the phone number as a required field for all shipping orders. The field is now marked with an asterisk (*) in the checkout.

How to mark the phone number as a required field for pickup orders

You can select whether the phone number field should be marked as required for each added pickup option individually.

1. In the sidebar of your cockpit, select Settings > Shop.
2. Select Shipping & pickup.
3. Navigate to the card Pickup options.
4. Select the pickup option you would like to edit.
5. Activate the checkbox Show phone number as a required field at checkout.
6. Select Save.

You have marked the phone number as a required field for this pickup option. The field is now marked with an asterisk (*) in the checkout. If you also want to make this setting for other pickup options, repeat the steps above.
