Shipping zones serve to define shipping rules for a particular geographical area. A zone is made up of either one or several countries. In our article Learn about shipping zones and methods we have already explained the basics. In this article we'll tell you how to handle shipping zones.

Add a shipping zone
To add a shipping zone, this is what you'll do:
- In the sidebar of the cockpit, navigate to Settings > Shop.
- Select Shipping & pickup.
- Select Add shipping zone in the top navigation.
- On the Basics card in the field Internal name, enter a name that defines your shipping zone. This name is only visible to you and will not be shown at checkout.
- In the field Countries, enter the country or several countries that apply to this shipping zone. Simply enter the first characters, and you will be provided a dropdown menu you can select from.
Note
We provide three country sets to make country selection easier for you: European Union, European non-EU countries, and Countries outside Europe. You can also combine these country sets, e.g. by adding the country set European Union and European non-EU countries in order to ship to all countries in Europe. The country sets are always displayed on top of the dropdown menu so that you can easily find them at any time. - Select Save.
Here's what we did in our example business world:
We have made the following decision: we would like to ship to the USA, as we have a shipping company at our disposal that serves this country with a good price-performance ratio.
The shipping zones that you've set up, and the respective countries, that you've chosen respectively, of course have an impact on the checkout. Once your customers need to enter their shipping address, they can select from a list of countries, that you have defined before via the shipping zones.
Sort shipping zones
You can easily add more shipping zones, just as it fits to your business needs.
If you'd like to sort them - no problem. You can simply do that with drag and drop. This is for your organizational purposes only, and does not have an impact on the checkout.
In our case, we wanted to sort the shipping zones alphabetically. It's as simple as that:
Delete a shipping zone
If you decide to get rid of a shipping zone, this is what you'll do:
- In the sidebar of the cockpit, navigate to Settings > Shop.
- Select Shipping & pickup.
- Select the shipping zone that you'd like to delete.
- Select Delete shipping zone.
- Confirm the deletion by selecting OK in the confirmation dialog.
Note
Once you've deleted a shipping zone, customers from countries included in that shipping zone cannot buy from your website anymore, if the countries are not included in other shipping zones. At least one shipping zone is required. That's why you cannot delete the last available shipping zone in your cockpit.
