In your cockpit, you can set whether your products are available for purchase or not.
- If your product is available for purchase, it will be displayed just like any other product.
- A product that is not available for purchase is displayed on your website, but cannot be ordered.

As you can see, when a product is not available for purchase, it is shown to your visitors as Not available. Furthermore, the Add to cart button is disabled. Your visitors can see the product and search for it, but they cannot order it.

What is the difference between stock level and purchasability?
The difference is best explained with an example:
- Imagine you have 100 Christmas sweaters in stock, but it's summer right now. You might not want to sell these Christmas sweaters at this time of the year. So you would set them as not available for purchase, even though they are still in stock.
- You could also set the stock level of the Christmas sweaters to 0. But this would mean that you've run out of sweaters, and you would need to order new ones for the next Christmas season.
- In both options, the product would be shown as not available on the website, and your visitors would not be able to buy any sweaters.
The advantage of purchasability here is, that you are still able to track your stock level correctly, while displaying it as not available to your visitors.
How to set a product without variations as not available for purchase
- In the sidebar of the cockpit, select Products.
- From the Product overview, select the product you would like to set as not available for purchase.
- Scroll down to the card Inventory tracking.
- Disable the Product is available for purchase checkbox.
Note
If the current stock level of the product is 0, it is not possible to edit the purchasibility because the product is not available at the moment anyway. - Select Save.
You have set the product as visible on your website, but are not offering it for sale.
How to set variations of a variation product as not available for purchase
- In the sidebar of the cockpit, select Products.
- From the Product overview, select the variation product whose variations you'd like to set as not available for purchase.
- Scroll down to the Inventory tracking card.
- In the Available for purchase column, you can determine whether each variation is available for purchase. To make a variation unavailable for purchase, disable the checkbox in the corresponding row. You can also disable the checkbox in the All variations row to set all variations as not available for purchase.
Note
If the current stock level of a variation is 0, it is not possible to edit the purchasibility because the variation is not available at the moment anyway. - Select Save.
You have set the respective variations as visible on your website, but are not offering them for sale.
